Hi I’m Dr. Shel, medical director at the VitaDrip Lounge. Vitamin C is something that most everyone is familiar with to some degree. Most people are aware of its ability to boost your immune system and help fight off and prevent illness. Vitamin C IV’s may help with many conditions, however, including inflammation, immune support, allergies, chronic infections, injuries, wound healing, post-surgical healing, heart disease, and even some cancers. We offer several different doses of vitamin c and the dose given really depends on various factors including the patient’s weight, age, how long they’ve been doing the IVs, and what our patient’s goals are. For example, if you’re actively fighting an illness or infection the recommended dose is a bit higher than if you are using it more for protection. Our highest doses however are reserved for our cancer patients. Vitamin C IVs can be used as an alternative or integrative approach to cancer treatment as well as post-cancer recovery. Based on the work of several vitamin C pioneers, Dr. Riordan was able to prove that vitamin C was selectively toxic to cancer cells and if given intravenously. This research was reproduced as well as published by Dr. Mark Levine at the National Institutes of Health. When administered in very high doses by IV, Vitamin C actually interacts with iron and other metals to create hydrogen peroxide. In high concentrations hydrogen peroxide damages the DNA and the mitochondria of cancer cells and it shuts down their energy supply. It can also be used alongside chemotherapy as it has been shown to improve the results as well as reduce the negative side effects of the chemo. Of course this is not something that we do independently. We always like to work with the oncologist to make sure it’s not going to disrupt anybody’s treatment as well as just being more integrative about making sure our patients get the best treatment possible. If you’re interested in IV vitamin C please request an appointment or contact us for more information.
