Q: I have an iodine allergy and most of my conditions are likely due to an iodine deficiency. Do I have an alternative treatment or a treatment option to cure the allergy?

Q: Can you rely up ALT and AST tests to know if liver toxic or overwhelmed? I just got diagnosed with Lyme and Bartonella.
A: The liver enzymes will elevate if the liver is compromised.
Q: Which is better B complex or B12 vitamins for women?

Q: I have been reading your book for women and menopause. I have had thyroid symptoms. Mostly my feet get really cold and I get fatigued. I have discovered certain foods affect me. I began taking iodine supplements. My question is, “Are there certain foods which will affect me more? If so what are they?”

Q: Hi Dr. Bob, I have been dealing with dry mouth/low saliva. I had taken over the counter allergy medicine for about a year and a half every day because of mostly ragweed so I thought that could be the reason. In prior years, I’ve only taken it in the fall. I’ve been off of it for about 10 months now but I still have this problem. It’s affecting my teeth as well. Any help would be appreciated.
A: Your sympathetic nervous system is being over stimulated probably because of stress being placed on it. I would suggest avoiding sugar to start and you may consider having a saliva test to evaluate adrenal function.

Q: My granddaughter is 13 years old, and at the age of 11, she started to just put on a lot of weight. Her doctor wanted to do blood work on her but she is afraid of needles and will not let us do it. What test can I do to get the best results to see what’s going on in her body. I’m always on her about not eating this or that, but nothing seems to help her weight issue.

Research shows that consuming energy drinks can cause High Blood Pressure, Arrhythmic Heart Palpitations and increased risk of cardiac arrest. Several cases of drinking too many energy drinks in a 24 hour period have caused cardiac arrest and have led to death. This is because energy drinks cause more forceful contractions in the heart, leading to a higher chance of cardiac arrest.
Furthermore, since energy drinks are designed to boost your energy, there are traces of high sugar content compared to soft drinks. Even “sugar-free” drinks are considered harmful to the body since it can have an effect of a “sticky blood” syndrome, where your blood platelets stick together and clot in your veins, leading to a higher chance of stroke. Also, stimulants in energy drinks can interact with high caffeine. It may cause or increase anxiety and insomnia, especially when drunk regularly or at an excessive amount.
On the other hand, there are several alternatives that can give you energy and skip-off energy drinks. First is drinking water. Our body is made up of 60% water, and according to research, drinking a total of eight glasses of water daily fulfills the requirement our body demands like promoting hydration, bowel movement and blood circulation.
Second is intake of protein like nuts and fish because these are excellent sources for Vitamin B12, which increase your cognitive function. Also, it can give you Omega-3 fatty acids, which improve cognitive function. Third, is drinking Green Tea. Green tea contains EGCG which speeds up your metabolism. It gives us the ability to burn about 70 calories a day.
Lastly, juicing vegetables will give you great energy! Juicing Dark, Leafy Greens like Kale or Spinach are great sources for B Vitamins, which increases metabolism and energy throughout the body. Micronutrients from drinking green juice will keep your body fueled, increase your immunity, and promote proper digestion and organ function.
Beets have soluble fiber. This is my favorite type of fiber because soluble fiber delays the emptying of your stomach which could help control weight gain. Soluble fiber also is capable of lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol.
Cucumber has silica, a mineral which our connective tissue needs for optimal function. It’s also important for joint function and even relieves joint pain due to it’s anti-inflammatory effects.
Lemon is one of the few foods that contain more negative charged ions, providing your body with more energy when it enters the digestive tract. The scent of lemon also has mood enhancing and energizing properties. The smell of lemon juice can brighten your mood and help clear your mind. Lemon can also help reduce anxiety and depression.
Mint is a powerful herb that can help restore vibrant skin. Mint contains salicylic acid, which a natural acne fighting compound. Mint also has Vitamin A which regulates oiliness.
An extensive body of research has linked high soluble fibre intake with a slower buildup of cholesterol-rich plaque in your arteries. The phenolic compound found in apple skins also prevents the cholesterol that gets into your system from solidifying on your artery walls. When plaque builds inside your arteries, it reduces blood flow to your heart, leading to coronary artery disease.
Ginger can not only be warming on a cold day, but can help promote healthy sweating, which is often helpful during colds. A good sweat may do a lot more than simply assist detoxification.
Kale contains antioxidants including carotenoids and flavonoids. Antioxidants protect our cells from unstable molecules called free radicals. Antioxidants are associated with many of the anti-cancer health benefits. Kale has been shown to ward off breast, colon, ovarian, prostate and bladder cancer.

If you want to boost your mental alertness, try a diet rich in the vitamins and minerals necessary for cognitive enhancement.
Step 1: Get adequate nutrition
Be sure to eat enough food so that you are adequately nourished, without eating so much that you become sluggish.
Step 2: Eat protein-rich foods
Raise your alertness by consuming foods rich in protein. Protein is broken down into its amino acid building blocks during digestion. One of those amino acids increases the production of neurotransmitters known to increase levels of alertness and energy.
Step 3: Eat carbohydrate-rich foods
Consume carbohydrates to help you feel relaxed, to reduce stress, and to help you avoid distractions. Eating carbohydrates cleans out all of the amino acids in your blood, except for the one that is converted to a neurotransmitter that produces a sense of clam.
Eat carbohydrates and proteins separately for maximum effect.
Step 4: Eat eggs
Eat eggs to improve your memory and concentration. Eggs are rich in a vitamin B complex that is a precursor to the brain neurotransmitter linked to memory.
Step 5: Avoid foods high in fat
Avoids foot high in fat. Fat can lead to fatigue, and when you’re fatigued, your interest in mental alertness will be a distant second to your interest in taking a nap.
